Note | Mail from Dad, Thur. Sept 27 2007. We just got word this morning that Stan Skinner passed away last night about 9:30pm. It’s too soon to know what the funeral arrangements will be. We were going to visit him in the Hospital today. They knew he could go at any time. As you know he’s been fighting Leukemia since about last August/September. He handled the Leukemia and Chemo Therapy pretty well. Probably better than expected. A week or more ago He began having severe stomach pains and went to emergency. That was diagnosed as a Hernia. He had surgery for that but hadn’t recovered from that. He had made it clear to Paula that he didn’t want to linger on Life Support, if it came to that and he was disconnected a couple of days ago. Paula has her three boys with her now and they will be making funeral arrangements this afternoon. We’ll keep you informed. Love Mom & Dad From an email My Dad, Mel Ruller sent, Mon. Sept 18th 2006. Yesterday we also visited Stan at Henderson Hospital in Hamilton. He's only supposed to have two visitors in his room at a time. Also he's caught a "Hospital Bug" a bowel infection for which he is in isolation, (to prevent the spread of his bug) If anyone goes into his room, they have to wear a hospital gown and rubber gloves to protect you from touching anything that Stan might have touched. (It only spreads by touch) Before you exit you remove the gowns into a sealed laundry bag and the gloves into the garbage. Yesterday we were eight visitors so we waited on benches outside in the sun and Paula went in and got Stan. He came out in a gown and rubber gloves and an intervenes tree, the only one who had to protect himself from contaminating anyone else. We couldn't touch him or his intervenes equipment! Stan's doing OK, He's had a seven day Chemo by intervenes and now he's under observation for the results. He was to have a bone Marrow test today and will have an MIR a little later. He'll be there at least another month being monitored. He's at The Henderson Hospital in Hamilton. The address of his room is difficult because it's in a numbered wing that we don't have. He is on a third floor and his room number is seven, but without knowing which wing number it's pretty hard to find him. He does have a telephone, you call the hospital and then his extension. |
